Many of our parents came back to school on the 11 March to share in a Learning Discovery evening with their children. The evening started in the classroom which is very different to the one I went to, back in my Primary school days!!! Teachers worked with the parents on a learning experience to showcase the way we engage students in learning activites. The feedback for this night was very positive with parents wanting more time like this with the teacher.
Children and parents were invited to also participate in a scavenger hunt around the school to discover clues that also highlighted contemporary learning strategies and activites across the school.
Check out the photos of some of our dispalys around the school. Look at ways we are making learning visible for our students by setting goals and success criteria for tasks. There is no secret business!! We want children to have a go and challenge themselves. We encourage their growth with feedback. It is so important that we have a strong parent and teacher partnership and I was delighted that we had such a great number of parents attend this evening.
What did you think of our Learning Discovery Night? What are some other ways we can share information with our parents?
In June this year I had the great privilege of participating in the biblical program, Rediscovering Jesus in the land…with Matthew. The program took place at Ecce Homo in the old city of Jerusalem. The month long study tour was such a wonderful gift providing personal spiritual enrichment, as well as a depth of understanding that will have an impact on my role as Principal at St Paul Apostle North school community in the years ahead. The course focus was the study of the Gospel of Matthew and we attended lectures to rediscover Jesus anew in the Holy Land.
Together we have reached what seemed the unreachable star to move from a school of portable relocatable buildings to the state of the art contemporary learning environment with new classrooms from Prep to Grade 6! Our dream was to create the very BEST 21st century learning space possible to meet the needs of the 21st century student, not just now but well into the future.
We had a great day of celebration. The piazza was a blaze of colour for the flag parade. Our new Passionists Learning Centre was officially opened by Fr. Tim O’Toole and Fr. Tony Egar on Saturday 16th March 2013. We had a Cultural Fiesta with songs and spectacular dances from various countries. There was delicious food to taste and a student expo to enjoy. The school choir made their first performance for the year and each grade level performed as well. The Grade 3 to 6 children were fabulous as they sang songs in Mandarin after just a term of learning this new language. Blackberry Jam Bush Band had us all up and joining in the fun which included a visit by Emily the Emu and whip cracking. We had a great day of celebration and even the weather could not stop the fun. Our flexible learning centres were soon converted and our bush dance and cultural acts were relocated into the MacKillop Learning Centre in a flash!
We certainly have a sensational school and wonderful community to be proud of.

We have had an exciting start to Term 4!
Firstly we arrived back to school to see our new senior learning centre just about completed. The building looks sensational and we are all looking forward to moving in by the end of next week. Now work has commenced to refurbish our administration building. We will have a brand new sick bay and refurbished offices among many other improvements.
On the first day of school, our Grade 5 and 6 students left for a three day camp at Mt Evelyn. The children enjoyed the challenge of many new experiences from tackling the giant swing to a night time bush walk. On the second night it was wonderful to have Fr James visit to say Mass. Mass was followed by a great Trivia night organised by Mr Larkins. After a day of adventure everyone was fast asleep as soon as their heads hit the pillow. On the final day the children went for a lovly bush walk to Silvan dam. The food on this camp was sensational and we all enjoyed lots of delicious meals. We are very proud of the way our children worked together in teams and enthusiastically participated. It was a pleasure to take these students on camp.
Wednesday was a rather quiet day as not only were the Grade 5 and 6 students on camp but the Grade 1 and 2 students also set off for an excursion to the Melbourne Zoo. The children enjoyed the new discovery centre and the various exotic and Australian animals at our lovely zoo. For some children this was their very first visit to the zoo and they were fascinated. The weather was perfect and the children were able to see the baby elephants at play and the lions roaring among many other things. Emily was so captivated that she said, “I wish I could live at the zoo!
